Planning Implementation: The Main Challenge

While the pace of urbanization in Bangladesh is increasing, it is happening in an unplanned manner. Especially in Dhaka and other divisional cities, the lack of planning in urbanization may create complex problems in the future. Unmanaged growth can make Dhaka metropolis uninhabitable.

Like other countries in the world, we also celebrate World Urban Planning Day on November 8 every year in Bangladesh. Recently, roundtable discussions have been held on urban planning and its implementation.

Master plans created for Dhaka, Chittagong, Khulna, and Rajshahi have been partially executed. The Chairman of the Urban Research Center, Professor Nazrul Islam, says that we are still able to live in the metropolis because of Dhaka's implemented plans.

However, current urban challenges are extremely difficult and are hampering citizens' comfortable living. Unanticipated expansion and the lack of foresight in previous planning have created new problems.
