On October 6, 2024, a Constitutional Reform Commission was formed in Bangladesh. Renowned political scientist Professor Ali Riaz was appointed as the head of this nine-member body. The main objective of the commission is to review existing provisions and provide recommendations for necessary amendments.
The work of the commission includes ensuring equality, social justice, and balance of power through modifications of the constitution. Establishing balance among the three organs of the state—executive, legislature, and judiciary—fascist governance prevention, and effective decentralization are the main goals of the commission.
This initiative will play a role in creating an inclusive democratic framework and formulating an inclusive constitution through reflection of public aspirations. The commission will submit their final recommendations to the interim government within 90 days.
