Global Youth Unemployment Rate Lowest in 15 Years
The United Nations has stated that the entire world is still struggling to recover from the COVID-19 pandemic. The International Labour Organization (ILO) has indicated that the number of people aged 15 to 24 who are not employed, educated, or trained is alarming. Many regions of the world could not benefit from economic recovery after the pandemic. The ILO has said that young men and women in some specific regions are missing recovering opportunities. In 2023, the number of youth unemployment was at its lowest since the beginning of the millennium. In 2022, the unemployment rate came down to 13 percent, which is the minimum in the last 15 years. This is a significant improvement compared to the pre-pandemic period. In 2019, this rate was 13.8 percent. In 2024, the global unemployment rate is expected to decline further to 12.8 percent. This decline is a positive indication of economic recovery. The youth unemployment rate globally is the lowest in 15 years. Engaging youth in inclusive development is essential for sustainable progress.
