27 Bangladeshis on the way to Antarctica
Among the 27 enthusiastic explorers, writer and bird specialist Inam Al Haque is participating. Also present are curious tourists Tarek Onu and Tanvir Opu.
On the morning of December 10, Tarek Onu posted a group photo on his personal Facebook account and wrote, 'Heading to Antarctica with 27 Bangladeshis... from 11 to 80—all diverse ages of people, but all passionate.'
Expedition team member Humayra Mostafa says, 'We are embarking on a long journey. This is an exciting and educational experience. We are stopping at various islands and increasing our understanding about nature and biodiversity.'
She further says, 'Unlike previous explorers, we are not exploring, we are experiencing adventurous basecamp trips. We are participating in fun activities like camping, hiking, and kayaking.'
Tourist Tanvir Opu says, 'This is a historic mission. Some Bangladeshis have traveled before, but this is the first joint expedition of so many Bangladeshis.'
The explorers boarded the ship from Ushuaia port on December 6. During the 21-day expedition, they will be visiting various regions of the ice-covered continent. They will also be stopping at Falkland Islands and South Georgia Islands. They will be returning to the same port on December 25.
